What we keep

If you enter the competition or add a memory: your first name, your email address, your photograph, and the location and time your camera recorded. If you buy something: your name, email, delivery address and what you ordered. If you order as a trade account: your business details and your Virginia ABC licence number. Nothing else.

Location

Precise coordinates stay on our server. Anything we publish is rounded or snapped to a public landmark, and every public image has its EXIF and XMP metadata stripped.

Who sees what

Photographs are visible to whoever uploaded them and to the people who were at that evening. Everyone else sees the engraving. We never publish that two people were near each other, and we never show follower counts, likes or a view of the whole network — those do not exist here.

Deleting

Deletion is real. Removing a memory removes the original file, every image derived from it, and the links to it, and queues the removal of anything published elsewhere that referenced it. Write to us and we will export or delete everything we hold about you. A removal request about a child is honoured within 48 hours.

Visitors

We count visits ourselves, on our own server, with no advertising or analytics company involved. The page you looked at, the page that sent you, the size of your screen, what you clicked, how long you read and how far you scrolled, how fast the page loaded, and a random id kept in your own browser so we can tell one visit from the next. We also keep your network address, the town and network it resolves to in our own copy of a public address directory, and what your browser says about itself: its name and version, the operating system, screen, language and connection. We use this to see who the site reaches and how it behaves for them, and for nothing else; we do not sell or share it. Add ?nt=1 to any address on this site once and your browser is left out.

Keeping records

Sales and tax records are kept for seven years because federal and Virginia law require at least three and two years respectively. Those records are separate from anything on the public site.
